Women’s Aid ABCLN is looking for two experienced professionals to join our Board and help shape the future of our organisation. We are seeking Treasurer to oversee financial governance and sustainability, and a Communications expert to guide our strategic messaging and public profile. These voluntary roles offer a chance to make a real difference, contributing your expertise to support women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

Why Your Expertise Matters
Women’s Aid ABCLN provides specialist services and support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse. We believe that no-one should have to live in fear or threat from abuse. Our Board plays a crucial role in this by making key decisions, managing risks and guiding the organisation’s growth.
The Role of Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial governance and sustainability of the charity, ensuring that appropriate financial systems, controls and reporting mechanisms are in place. The role will support the Board in making informed decisions to enable the organisation to deliver high-quality services to women and children experienicng domestic abuse.
The Role of Communications Specialist
As a Board member with communications expertise, you will support the Board in ensuring the charity communicates effectively, ethically, and safely with its stakeholders. You will provide strategic oversight of communications, branding, and public messaging to raise awareness of domestic abuse, support service users, and enhance the organisation’s reputation and reach.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking individuals who will bring integrity, sound judgement and strategic guidance to our Board.
Key Qualities
Commitment to supporting individuals affected by domestic abuse
Experience relevant to the Treasurer or Communications roles
Sensitivity, empathy, and a trauma-informed approach
Integrity and sound judgement
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a Board
Willingness to challenge constructively and contribute to effective decision-making
How You Will Make a Difference
Your financial oversight will play a vital part in ensuring the charity can safely and sustainably support vulnerable women and children.
Your communications guidance will protect and develop the charity’s brand and reputation.
As an active member of the Board, contributing to overall governance and strategic direction.
Time Commitment and Application Process
The expected time commitment is 5 to 10 hours each month. This includes attending Board meetings and occasional events. The roles are voluntary, with reimbursement for expenses.
