One in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

Police respond to one incident of domestic abuse every 16 minutes across Northern Ireland.

For every incident we know the impact on women and children can be devastating.

Over 30% of domestic abuse starts during pregnancy.

In 90% of incidents children are in same or adjacent room when violence happens.
PSNI Domestic Abuse Statistics
In the twelve months to 31st March 2025 there were 29,751 incidents of domestic abuse recorded by the police where there was a domestic abuse motivation.
Over this period police recorded 1,969 domestic abuse incidents in Antrim & Newtownabbey and 1,958 incidents across Mid and East Antrim.
Women’s Aid ABCLN 2024-25

In 2024-25 Women’s Aid ABCLN supported 1,511 women and 725 children living with domestic abuse across Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey.

71 women and 57 children stayed in our refuge accommodation.
-
1,440 women accessed support in the community.

669 women attended Journey To Freedom and other groups & courses.

Domestic Abuse Specialists provided 2,274 support sessions for women.

Domestic Abuse Specialists provided 1,382 therapeutic support sessions for children

Over this period we responded to 66,725 information and support calls.
Since 2020 thirty adult women in Northern Ireland have been killed by men.
In 2024-25 there were six homocides in Northern Ireland with a domestic abuse motivation. All of these were female, five women and one girl under the age of 18.
