PSNI in Mid and East Antrim stand with Women’s Aid ABCLN for 16 Days of Action against Gender-Based Violence to end violence against women and girls.
The global 16 Days of Action against Gender-Based Violence is an international movement calling for an end to violence against women and girls. It runs from 25th November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, until 10th December, Human Rights Day.
PSNI Vulnerability Inspector Neil Hewat says “3,814 domestic abuse incidents and crimes were recorded by the police in Mid and East Antrim from October 2022 to September 2023. We want perpetrators to know we are cracking down on these crimes and using every tool available to us to do so.”
Women’s Aid ABCLN CEO Gillian Creevy says “For every incident we know the impact on women and children can be devastating. Women’s Aid ABCLN provides confidential support, information and emergency accommodation for women and children who are affected by domestic abuse across Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey.”
Inspector Hewat says “We are working closely with Women’s Aid ABCLN and other agencies to drive a partnership approach to keep women and girls safe. We encourage people to pick up the phone and report if they have experienced domestic abuse by ringing 101 or 999 in an emergency. PSNI officers across Northern Ireland take these crimes seriously and will investigate all reports robustly.”
