Since launching the Workplace Charter on Domestic Abuse in 2011, we have delivered accredited training to over 1,700 organisations across Northern Ireland. Our approach is rooted in academic research, trauma-informed principles, and evidence-based best practice

 

Workplace Charter on Domestic Abuse

 

The Workplace Charter on Domestic Abuse is an accredited framework that equips organisations across Northern Ireland to recognise and respond to domestic abuse.

 

Delivered by Women’s Aid Domestic Abuse Specialists, the Workplace Charter will enable your organisation to provide a safe and supportive environment for anyone experiencing domestic abuse to seek help. Working together, we will support your organisation to establish a zero-tolerance approach domestic abuse, in all its forms and end violence against women and girls.

1: Policy Development 

​

The first step in the Workplace Charter is to develop a Domestic Abuse Policy. We will work with your organisation to embed key principles to end violence against women and girls into policies and practice including Equality and Dignity at Work, creating a culture where everyone is safe from abuse.

​

The Workplace Charter on Domestic Abuse will enable your organisation fulfil your duty of care under Health and Safety and new Safe Leave Legislation.

2:  Training

​

Specialist CPD Accredited training will be provided for Workplace Champions, including Human Resources and all Managers, equipping them with the knowledge to respond safely to concerns and disclosures. This will ensure anyone experiencing domestic abuse has a trusted person they can talk to and a clear, confidential pathway to support.

 

In addition, accredited training for will be provided for All Staff across your organisation to increase understanding about domestic abuse and control, recognise when a relationship has the potential to become abusive, challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours, and seek help safely for themselves or a colleague.

 

*All training will be CPD Accredited, ensuring it consistently meets high-quality standards and benchmarks of excellence, and supports your team’s continued professional development.

3. Consultancy and Communications

 

We will provide your organisation with information and resources including workplace posters to raise awareness about domestic abuse, and signpost staff to services and support.  Additionally, all Workplace Charter organisations will have direct access to specialist consultancy as required.

4. Annual Audit

 

We will work with you to carrying out an Annual Audit to ensure the Workplace Charter ethos is fully integrated across your organisation. This evaluation and review will build capacity, enabling you to deliver a comprehensive domestic abuse response for everyone.

5: Workplace Charter Awards

 

On successful completion, your organisation will be awarded Workplace Charter status at our Annual Awards ceremony, recognising your commitment to end domestic abuse. This will provide an excellent platform for networking and sharing best practices with other Workplace Charter organisations including Northern Ireland Civil Service, local councils and leading businesses.
