Staff and volunteers at local Women’s Aid were delighted to hear that Area Manager, Rosemary Magill, has been recognised with a MBE in the New Year’s Honours List.
Rosemary was appointed as Team Leader of Ballymena Women’s Aid in November 1998. Her vision and commitment has seen the development of the services provided by Women’s Aid across, Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey both in urban and rural areas. In January 2004 Rosemary was promoted to Area Manager responsible for overseeing all the projects the organisation offers.
Rosemary has made an important contribution to enhancing the services for victims of domestic abuse. She helped develop the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference’s pilot in Northern Ireland. Playing a pivotal role in the launch of the White Ribbon Charter Rosemary encouraged the commitment from every MLA to sign the pledge ‘never to commit, condone or stay silent about violence against women’.
In October 2011, Rosemary was awarded a ‘Justice Champion Award’ presented by Justice Minister, David Ford.
Adeline Frew, Chair of Women’s Aid ABCLN said today:
‘This is fantastic news, and I am so proud of, and pleased for Rosemary. We all know Rosemary will say it is recognition of all of the team at Women’s Aid ABCLN. But we also know that it is recognition of her personal determination, drive and vision that staff, volunteers, and the women and children they serve all benefit from’.
