Recruitment of volunteers

Recruitment takes place twice yearly, usually in February/ March and again in September/October.  Information for these meetings is as follows:  

• Confidentiality is paramount.
• Sessions run once a week.
• The venue is variable, decided by convenience for the greatest number.
• There are six training sessions. In the last one prospective volunteers will be taken on a visit to the refuge where they meet with members of Management Committee and some staff.   

Following this each volunteer meets for a one-to-one session with a worker from the refuge.  Agreements between the two parties (the volunteer and Women's Aid) are signed.    

Women's Aid in Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey stipulates that volunteers should give four hours per week in any field; however, this is flexible.  They are also encouraged to take part in fundraising activities within the organisation.  

Ongoing training is available to all volunteers to support them in their work, and to help them update and extend their skills.   

A residential is held for Management Committee, staff and volunteers. This is an opportunity to train on relevant issues and enjoy some social time together.
