Women’s Aid ABCLN Celebrate Volunteer Week 2013

Women’s aid ABCLN recognised the contributions of their Volunteers last week as part of Volunteer Week, at a celebratory event on Thursday 6th June at their Cornerstone Building in Antrim.

Laura Dillon, Volunteer Co-ordinator with Women’s Aid ABCLN, paid tribute to the volunteers by saying:
‘Our Volunteers are the backbone of our organisation and do a lot without expecting anything in return. Without the support of our Volunteers, we would not have had the opportunity to provide assistance to 1202 women and 4711 children last year. Quite simply, without the work of the Volunteers, our organisation could not survive.”

George Gillespie, from Volunteer Now also paid tribute to the fantastic work of the Volunteers and congratulated them on the prestigious Queens award for Voluntary service awarded in June 2012.

Liz, a Volunteer from Carrickfergus said “I enjoy Volunteering with Women's aid, being part of a support network and seeing women becoming empowered to assert themselves in a positive way. I have made lots of friends and feel part of a community working together towards a common goal.

Anyone experiencing domestic violence can also access support by calling the 24hr Domestic Violence Helpline on 0800 917 1414.
